Buy a funny word

These make the screenshots that travel. Owning one is a joke about yourself, which is the only version of the joke this site will host.

A board of pure category words converts perfectly well and reads like a directory listing. These are the entries that make it worth looking at, and the honest version of why they exist is that they are the only reliable distribution this product has: nobody screenshots a company buying "analytics", and quite a lot of people screenshot a company buying "slop".

Which makes them a better advertising buy than they look. The reach of a placement here is not the traffic to the page, it is how far the screenshot travels, and on that measure the absurd words outperform the expensive ones consistently.

There is one rule on this group and it is not negotiable. Owning "idiot" is a joke about yourself. Owning "idiot" and pointing it at a competitor's homepage is a claim about a named company on a page carrying our name, so these words are flagged for review and their outbound links are read by a person before they resolve.

Why you would want one

You are comfortable being the joke, and you have an audience that will pass it on. That is the whole qualification.

What buying one costs

Every word carries a reserve, the price under which it does not sell — the lowest in this category is $25, and bidding opens well below it. Each later bid has to clear the current one by at least $5 or 10%, whichever is larger, and a bid in the last minutes pushes the close back. Whoever is highest when it ends owns the word permanently — there is nothing to renew, and no way for anyone to take it afterwards.

What you get is the word's page with your name, a line of copy, a logo and one outbound link; a slot on the board; a vanity URL you can say out loud; a live badge for your README; and click counts tagged so the traffic shows up in your own analytics. The full rules.
